GOED Exchange 2024:

A Resounding Success

Screen Shot 2024-02-01 at 4.32.27 PM

The eighth GOED Exchange conference took place two weeks ago, January 23-25, in Athens, Greece, with almost 250 attendees — plus another 20 virtual attendees — participating in the event.  The conference included sessions on Artificial Intelligence, pet foods, European packaging, omega-3 product quality, supply chain challenges, omega-3 diagnostics, the latest in China, sustainability and much more. GOED Exchange 2024 also hosted an afternoon of networking activities including a “modern art” creation for a local charity and a scavenger hunt in downtown Athens, as well as a gala dinner at the Acropolis Museum. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.

A tradition at the GOED Exchange is the presentation of two Lifetime Achievement Awards and this year’s two winners were Dr. Philip Calder and Dr. Andrew Sinclair. Click here to see the awards presentation.

For the first time, GOED also presented three GOED member awards to individuals at member companies who were noteworthy in their assistance to and support of GOED. The three winners were: Sinan Muderrisoglu with Sifar Illaclari, Geir Frode Olsen with Epax Norway and Dimitri Sclabos Katevas with Tharos Ltd.

Congratulations to all winners and thanks again to all who attended the conference as well as our sponsors, who helped us bring the event to life. See you all in 2026!

Regulatory & Certification

After learning that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will no longer provide “nonprescription fish oil dietary supplements” to Veterans, GOED submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for all the documentation associated with the decision. The VA’s reason for such action is that they can no longer guarantee nonprescription fish oil dietary supplements are “effective and safe.”

We will let you know once we receive any information, but it’s important to note that a FOIA request takes an average of almost a year to fulfill.

On January 4, the Thai Food and Drug Administration introduced new notifications on nutrition labeling for prepackaged food, including MOPH Notification No. 447, which outlines criteria for functional claims. Notably, foods featuring the claim "DHA and EPA contribute to the normal function of the heart" must have a minimum of 40 mg of DHA and EPA per serving or per 100 grams or 100 ml, and a message advising the consumption of 250 mg of DHA and EPA per day must be displayed.
