Marketing Misconceptions in the Chinese Market

Screen Shot 2025-08-06 at 3.15.09 PM

GOED visited China earlier this year, giving presentations at several industry events and meeting with local GOED member companies. During that time we learned about some confusion in the Chinese market in terms of marketing claims and labeling language as well as questionable statements about omega-3 science being included on social media platforms. We put together this video to help educate members about the marketing misconceptions in this important and fast-growing market.

GOED Submits Comments to Brazilian Regulatory Agency Regarding Algae Products

GOED submitted comments to the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) regarding Public Consultation No. 1,324, dated April 17, 2025 - Proposal for a Normative Instruction that establishes the specifications for the identity, purity and composition of ingredients authorized for use in food primarily to express concern that a large number of oils from Schizochytrium are not adequately represented in the Normative Instruction.

Clarification on Last Week’s Tariff Story

As a clarification to last week’s story, New US Executive Order on Tariffs Announced, if a country (e.g. Canada) has a free trade agreement with the US, preferential tariff rates still apply if the product qualifies under the agreement’s rules of origin. The challenge for omega-3 companies is determining what products (i.e., refined oils versus encapsulated products) qualify under an agreement's rules of origin. Note that if a new reciprocal tariff deal is signed, it may replace or modify the original free trade agreement for certain goods or sectors.

Antarctic Krill Fishery Quota Reached

The Antarctic krill fishery has been temporarily closed for the season after the CCAMLR-set catch quota was reached for the first time since the system was introduced. This closure demonstrates that the precautionary management framework for the krill fishery is working exactly as intended. The catch level represents less than 1% of the estimated biomass in Area 48, and operations continue to follow strict voluntary buffer zones around wildlife, alongside high scientific standards.

Regulatory & Certifications

"Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1549 of 30 July 2025 correcting Implementing Regulations (EU) 2023/2210 and (EU) 2022/1365 as regards the conditions of use of the novel foods 3-Fucosyllactose produced by a derivative strain of Escherichia coli K-12 DH1 and Schizochytrium sp. oil rich in DHA and EPA” has been published. This corrects “Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1365 of 4 August 2022 amending Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 as regards the conditions of use of the novel food Schizochytrium sp. oil rich in DHA and EPA” to include the use of the novel food Schizochytrium sp. oil rich in DHA and EPA in food supplements for children from 18 months to 18 years of age at levels of 250 mg/day. The previous regulation erroneously omitted this use.

GOED sent a letter to the Canadian General Standards Board requesting the addition of DHA algal oil to CAN/CGSB-32.311-202X (Organic production systems - Permitted Substances Lists).
