Member Input Required: Updated GOED Bylaws

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 12.54.05 PM

GOED and its board of directors have made several updates to the GOED Bylaws and these updates must now be approved by all GOED members with voting rights. A separate email will be sent this week to all the primary contacts at GOED members and one vote is allowed per company. We are sharing the proposed updates with all members for your information; please feel free to discuss internally with your primary GOED contact. Here’s a quick snapshot of proposed changes:

  • GOED’s recently-finalized Purpose and Mission are now included in the Bylaws, replacing old language.
  • Additional definitions such as “Code of Ethics” and “Monograph” have been added for clarity, and the new Bylaws also define “Control” of a company and its divisions, subsidiaries, etc.
  • A new definition of an “Affiliate” of a Member has been added along with a new provision to allow for those entities to be GOED members provided they agree to adhere to GOED’s membership affidavit.
  • There are also minor changes to the section on Base and Plus level board representatives, clarifying details that were not covered in the October 2022 Bylaws update.
  • The board also added a provision requiring new members covered by the GOED monograph to submit a certificate of analysis as part of their member application process.

Voting will take place over 45 days. Note that members must be in good standing to be eligible to vote. Please reach out to Ashley Becnel with any questions about the process.

GOED Presents to Dietitian Influencers at FoodFluence Event

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 1.55.38 PM

Last month, GOED attended the annual FoodFluence conference, held in Berlin, Germany. This event brought together 33 North America-based dietitians who are most active in the media and on social media and are considered the top consumer influencers on health-related topics. The goal of the conference is to present science-backed information on topics they are most asked about, including how to combat nutrition misinformation in the media.

GOED presented a session called: Words Matter: Could Communications Be Driving the EPA+DHA Omega-3 Intake Gap? JP Schuchardt, PhD, of the University of Hannover, Germany, and GOED partner Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), presented his recent work mapping global and US omega-3 intake status. He also presented pre-published work on global omega-3 intake status for pregnant women. The session concluded with a presentation by Elana Natker, RD, GOED’s Director of Consumer and Health Practitioner Communications. She covered ways in which the media can be unclear about omega-3 benefits and sources and stressed that, as health influencers, the dietitians should be focused on, for example, EPA+DHA omega-3 messaging and intake vs. ALA omega-3s.

Attendees were also invited to try a “flight” of seven different types of EPA+DHA omega-3 products, including liquids, fish oil, krill, algae and chews.

Since the event, there has been an uptick in queries on omega-3-related research as well as postings on topics covered in the presentations, and we expect strong coverage for Global Omega-3 Day. Here are a couple of early articles and postings:

  • The 6 Best Frozen Foods for Cognitive Health, According to Dietitians
  • Omega-3s for Kids: Why They Matter and How to Get More In
  • Instagram reel by Sarah Schlichter, MPH, RD

Thanks to all GOED members who contributed products for the outreach.
