Tariff Exemptions for Certain Supplement Ingredients Announced by Trump Administration
The Trump administration has published a list of exempted products as part of Executive Order “Regulating Imports with a Reciprocal Tariff to Rectify Trade Practices that Contribute to Large and Persistent Annual United States Goods Trade Deficits.” Included in this list are a variety of vitamins, minerals and related supplement ingredients. One of the listed ingredients (page 9) is “Fatty acids of animal or vegetable origin” with HTSUS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States) code 29159010. While this is theoretically good news for our industry, GOED is not clear on how many GOED members use this code versus other HTSUS codes. To that end, we are asking members to provide us with the HTSUS tariff codes associated with any omega-3 ingredient oils you export to the United States so we can compile a comprehensive list, which we could then provide to the United States government to request further exemptions. Please send your list of tariff codes to Harry Rice by April 10.
For those products not exempted, beginning April 5, 2025, there is an additional ad valorem duty starting at 10% on all imports from all trading partners. On April 9, country specific ad valorem rates of duty specified in Annex I go into effect.
