AHRQ Announces Third Call for Scientific Information in Preparation for an EPA/DHA DRI Review

In what is the third request for comments in less than two weeks, the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) Effective Health Care (EHC) Program has announced that it is seeking scientific information relevant to questions associated with the protocol for “Dietary Saturated Fat Replacement and Plasma Lipid and Cardiovascular Events.”

The key questions for this review are as follows:

• What are the effects of replacing dietary intake of total or individual saturated fatty acids with unsaturated, mono-unsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, or protein on plasma lipid concentrations in the general population?
• What are the effects of replacing dietary intake of total or individual saturated fatty acids with unsaturated, mono-unsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, or protein on cardiovascular events in the general population?

Similar to the review for “Dietary Intake of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Plasma Lipid and Cardiovascular Events,” observational studies meeting certain criteria will be considered for review.
