GOED Continues to Update Consumer Infographics

Screen Shot 2025-06-05 at 1.41.10 PM

GOED is in the process of updating our infographics, starting with the consumer-facing materials. In late 2024, we audited existing materials and made recommendations for infographics to eliminate, edit lightly, or refresh more comprehensively. So far, we have made the following changes:

  • Eye Health: As highlighted previously, GOED updated the eye health infographic with more appealing graphics and compelling copy.
  • Omega-3 Dosage and Heart Health: This infographic, based on the Bernasconi et al paper, was revised after an updated meta-analysis was conducted. In addition to removing references to “new” research, we modified the call to action to align with GOED’s recommendation of 500 mg EPA+DHA per day.
  • Test Your Omega-3 IQ: Minor changes were made to this decision tree-style infographic, including swapping out the American omega-3 intake statistic for a global one.
  • Preterm Birth: This infographic was updated with data from the Cetin et al paper. We also changed the design to be more appealing and to call more attention to the copy.

You can find these infographics on the tools for consumer education webpage (under Resources on the GOED website) or on the Infographics webpage (under More Omega-3 Info on AlwaysOmega3s.com).

More updates will be released throughout the year. GOED is currently developing a new infographic focused on heart health, expected to launch later this summer.

As a reminder, GOED infographics are available for members to use in their communications and may be translated into other languages. If you're interested in helping translate any of them, please let us know.

Update on Operation Stork Speed

GOED virtually attended the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expert panel on non-exempt infant formula (i.e. for healthy, full-term infants) which was convened to begin discussing various topics of relevance to infant formula, including nutrient composition (e.g. fatty acids). Dr. Tom Brenna, 2020 GOED Exchange speaker, was among the panel members. He was interviewed the day after the expert panel convened. In the 1990s, his group’s basic research studies on omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids contributed to the approval of DHA in US infant formulas.

The panel, moderated by the FDA Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sara Brenna, with introductory remarks provided by FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, was the next step in Operation Stork Speed (last reported in the 19 May 2025 GOED Current).

At this point, it’s unclear how often the panel will meet, but GOED will monitor the FDA website and report back to the membership with relevant updates.

As background on FDA Expert Panels, they “are roundtable discussions with independent panels of scientific experts that will review the latest scientific evidence, evaluate potential health risks, explore safer alternatives, and may offer recommendations for regulatory action. This initiative is part of the FDA’s broader efforts to apply rigorous, evidence-based standards to ingredient safety and modernize regulatory oversight, thoroughly considering evolving science and consumer health.”
