GOED Publishes Clinical Study Database Report on Dry Eye Disease
GOED has published a new Clinical Study Database (CSD) Report on Dry Eye Disease. This eye condition affects many people and symptoms can include itching, burning or eye pain. EPA+DHA omega-3s are one treatment option that may help to improve symptoms related to Dry Eye Disease and this report summarizes the research on interventional studies using EPA+DHA omega-3s. EU Requests Scientific Opinion on DHA Safety
The European Commission (EC) has requested that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reassess the safe level of intake of DHA and establish a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for DHA by the end of June 2026. EFSA has agreed to the request.
While EFSA’s reassessment of DHA is not associated with an open consultation, GOED is planning to conduct our own literature search on DHA and provide the results to EFSA to ensure it has all relevant publications for consideration. We expect to complete this by Q3 of this year. Members may recall that in anticipation of EFSA’s 2012 Scientific Opinion, GOED commissioned a Hazard Characterization of EPA, DHA and DPA, which GOED provided to EFSA in advance of the opinion. GOED Paper Receives ‘Highly Cited Author’ Distinction
GOED was awarded a “highly cited author” certificate by Mayo Clinic Proceedings (MCP) for the February 2021 paper on omega-3 dosage and cardiovascular health written by Aldo Bernasconi, PhD, GOED’s vice president of data science and others. As highlighted in this Current article, the paper analyzed the existing omega-3 interventional trials with cardiovascular outcomes and found that higher omega-3 dosages are correlated with statistically significant increases in risk reduction for a variety of cardiovascular outcomes. According to MCP's editor in chief: “These highly cited manuscripts received enough citations to place them in the top 1% of the academic field of clinical medicine based on a highly cited threshold for the field and publication year, contributing to Mayo Clinic Proceedings' 2023 Impact Factor." GOED Welcomes Applications for 2025 Special Achievement Program
Third-party laboratories that are highly accurate in the quantification of EPA and DHA in omega-3 oils are now invited to apply for this year’s GOED Special Achievement Program (SAP). This program was created in 2024 to encourage testing laboratories to improve their accuracy in the quantification of EPA and DHA in omega-3 ingredient oils and omega-3 supplement products.
The “Special Achievement” title is held for one year, during which time GOED promotes these laboratories to members and the public by including them on a dedicated webpage, promoting them in the GOED Current and preferentially recommending these laboratories when companies ask which testing labs to use. In 2024, two laboratories qualified for the award, KD LabService and Lipid Analytical Laboratories.

Informa, the organizer of the Hi-Fi Asia-China event, is now offering GOED members an opportunity to exhibit in the Marine Resources Pavilion at the show. The pavilion will be in the main hall and centrally located in the overseas area, which is highly visited by the domestic market. GOED member Naturmega and RAWBIDS GmbH have signed an exclusive agreement for Naturmega’s Ruby-O branded ingredient distribution in Europe. RAWBIDS, a global marketplace for premium ingredients, will drive this expansion using its expertise in supply chain optimization and branded ingredient marketing.
According to the All-Russian Fisheries Association (VARPE), China has more than doubled import duties on Russian seafood, raising rates on frozen pollock, cod and other fish from 2% to 5% as of January 1.
Taiwan FDA plans to add "knee joint protection" to the list of approved health food claims. A draft evaluation method for this claim has been proposed, allowing approved products to state they help alleviate mild knee joint discomfort. Public consultation is open until April 15. The proposed evaluation method requires a 12-week clinical trial on the product.

Premium dog supplement provider PupGrade is partnering with Walmart to launch an exclusive canine health product line. The lineup includes soft chew supplements such as Joint Support, which incorporates green-lipped mussels, and Skin & Coat, formulated with fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids.
Raw pet food company We Feed Raw has launched Freeze-Dried Raw Food for dogs, made with 85% USDA human-grade meat and organs sourced from the US and New Zealand. Designed for adult dogs, the recipes include salmon oil for omega-3 fatty acids.
The 2025 Expo West NEXTY Award for Sustainable Supplement went to Omega 3-6-9 from Mega Food, sister company to GOED member Pharmavite. The product provides 600 mg of total omega-3s, including 150 mg of algal DHA per serving.
GOED member Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Japan ran the "Sustainable Fish Recipes 2025" campaign earlier this year, featuring MSC-certified seafood recipes from eight countries. A survey of 6,800 people found key factors in fish cooking were ease, ingredient availability, time and cost. Health, taste and omega-3 content were top reasons for eating fish. Around 95% of survey participants expressed interest in choosing seafood with the MSC eco-label.
