New Consumer Infographic: Omega-3 Supplement Types

Screen Shot 2024-06-13 at 5.50.23 PM

GOED has a new infographic for members to share with customers, consumers and health professionals. Omega-3 Supplement Types: A Sea of Possibilities explains the different ways people can get EPA and DHA omega-3s in supplement form. This infographic was developed in response to member requests to help consumers understand that “fish oil” and “omega-3s” are not interchangeable terms, and that, in fact, there are many sources and formats to get supplementary EPA+DHA omega-3s.

The Communications Committee reviewed and provided comments on the infographic during development. We hope members can use it in consumer, health professional and customer communications. If you’d like to translate the infographic into your local language, please email Elana Natker to receive the native file.

Personalized Nutrition Consumer Reports Available from Nlumn

Consulting firm Nlumn, who GOED worked with for our recent diagnostics research project, recently completed a quantitative study of 3,000 US consumers interested in personalized nutrition products and services. The study also analyzed subgroups within this population to learn about those interested in personalized supplements, personalized exercise and fitness, and personalized well-being.

Key learnings include: Consumers participating in a personalized supplement plan are 60% more likely to take omega-3 (fish oil) supplements and three-quarters of consumers who take omega-3 supplements also report taking other vitamin and mineral supplements.

Each report delivers a deep understanding of personalized consumers’ attitudes and behaviors, including experiences from current and prior users of personalized nutrition, supplements, exercise and well-being plans. Understanding their challenges, desired benefits, barriers and who they turn to for recommendations can help businesses make solid decisions on successful personalized nutrition product and service innovations.

Nlumn is offering GOED members a 25% discount off any of these reports. Order your report here and enter GOED25 or contact Nlumn directly with any questions or customization needs.

Regulatory & Certification

During a recent meeting of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC), a brief update on the status of the dietary reference intake (DRI) reviews was provided, including a mention that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is conducting systematic reviews on protein, carbohydrates, fiber and fat.

While this corroborates what GOED reported in the May 13, 2024 GOED Current, what we didn’t know previously is that, per the advice of the Standing Committee for the Review of the Dietary Reference Intakes Framework, there is going to be only one review for all of the macronutrients, which is anticipated to start within the next year.

GOED member Rbionutrix has received the FSSC 22000 certification from Intertek, highlighting its commitment to quality, environmental care and sustainable practices in producing omega-3 fatty acids.
