The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), the body that oversees anchovy fishing activities in Peru, has authorized an exploratory fishing period of up to 10 days, beginning today (August 3), in the North Central region. The fishing will be overseen by IMARPE, the government’s scientific body, and coordinated with authorized fishing vessels. No specific quota has been set but catches per vessel will need to correspond to the individual company quotas assigned during the first (cancelled) fishing season of the year. There is no information at this time on activities beyond the 10-day period.
